Ege University Rises 94 Steps in One Year in the “World Green Universities” Ranking

Ege moved up 94 places in one year in the "World Green Universities" ranking.

Ege University continues its rapid rise in Greenmetric, which is known as the "World Green Universities" ranking, which evaluates higher education institutions in terms of the sustainability studies they carry out. In the evaluation made for 2020, EU increased 94 steps and ranked 165th among 922 universities from 84 countries, and ranked 4th among state universities in our country. With this success, Ege increased its place in the ranking from 33 percent to 18 percent.

Saying that they have carried out important works to create a green and sustainable campus in the last three years, EÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Budak said, “Our university has been participating in the Greenmetric ranking since 2016. It has been on the rise since then. Our ranking, which was 287 in 2018 and 259 in 2019, has increased tremendously to 165 this year. We rank fourth among state universities in our country. Despite the increase in the number of universities participating in the system every year, it is admirable that we are showing this success. For his contributions to this success, especially our Environmental Problems Application and Research Center Director Prof. Dr. I would like to thank those who contributed, especially Dinçer Ayaz and his team.”

Stating that the evaluation has multiple parameters, Prof. Dr. Budak said, “In the Greenmetric ranking; Your scores on Buildings and Infrastructure, Energy and Climate Change, Waste, Water, Transportation and Education and Research are looked at. When the results of the previous years are compared with the results of 2020, it is striking that there are significant increases for our university in all headings. Our university in 2020; From 875 points to 1,755 points in Building and Infrastructure, from 975 to 175 points in Energy and Climate Change, from 1,50 points to 1,200 points in Wastes, from 500 points to 700 in Water activities, from 1,275 to 1,425 points in Transportation In terms of research, it increased from 1,500,000 points to 1,475 points. We got 7 thousand 50 points in total. As a result of obtaining the Zero Waste Certificate and working with the Zero Waste Coordinators of our University, especially within the scope of the Zero Waste Project, our score on waste has increased. The use of the outputs of the İZKA Sustainable Campus Feasibility Support Project as data this year was important for our success this year. Again, all the works we carried out within the scope of our 'Pedestrian Priority Green Campus' project brought us to this point. As Ege University, we will continue our efforts to be an exemplary and leading university for our region and our country, starting from our city, and to leave a healthy environment for future generations, with environmental studies we have carried out with the goal of 'Sustainable Campus', which is one of our most important goals.
